What are the top three things your school is currently doing to be green?
Recycling
Planting trees that are indigenous to our region
Using "real" dishes in the dining hall (cafeteria)
What is the next thing you would like to do to promote environmentalism?
Grow our youth leadership in these efforts and raise awareness and interest among our greater school community.

21st Century Skills and Global Education

Three of the important 21st century skills we must teach our students are collaboration, global education, and authentic learning. Service learning focusing on environmental issues and ecology as well as topics such as global warming, sustainability, etc. is the perfect vehicle in which these skills can be incorporated and utilized. Today's youth want to make a difference in real-life problems, and working together as they solve global issues and collaborate with partners around the world is an incredible and powerful learning experience.

Find an issue in your community that your students are interested in addressing, and have them work together (and eventually with partners around the world) to find solutions to that problem. Making our students active, global citizens as we prepare them to be good stewards of our planet is our responsibility, and it is one that can provide great satisfaction to everyone involved!

"Power Up" for Fall with Ways to Power Down!

Where has the summer gone? We are nearing the end, and as those of us in education begin to plan for a new school year, let's share our ideas, thoughts, and resources for "Going Green" and working to stop climate change!
