Our sixth graders are interested in partnering with other schools who are studying water quality in their local area and sharing and comparing data and solutions to both local and global water quality issues. We are a member of the Rolling on the River ning and the ALI Rolling on the River group. Here is a link to our 2007-2008 Water Quality project that involved our students in analyzing water quality data from California and Peru: To Peru and Back: An exploration of water quality - an experience in global awareness http://web.mac.com/elainewrenn

A teacher at my school, Rozzie Bird, and her class participated in the Challenge 20/20 global project during the 2007-2008 school year. For information on the project, visit the link: http://www.nais.org/conferences/index.cfm?ItemNumber=147262&sn.ItemNumber=148035

Her class researched the issue of water deficit around the world and presented findings to the Board of Trustees at our school. Her students discovered that for about $17,000, villages in Africa that struggle because of the effects of water deficit can receive a "playpump," which is an underground well attached to a merry-go-round type piece of equipment run and enjoyed by children above ground. Now, Rozzie's students and other children at Lovett are fundraising to be able to provide a village with this life-changing resource. Rozzie's email address is rbird@lovett.org.
Fun = World Change!

Take a look at an example of a "playpump" here: http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/000446.html
